Common Wi-Fi Problems and How to Fix Them
Can’t see a Wifi SSID that you know it is available
- Ensure that your Wi-Fi is disabled or not on your computer or phone. Windows laptops and other devices have hardware/software Wi-Fi buttons on it that will press by accident. In Windows 7,8 or 10, the 5 Wi-Fi Bar icon will show a red X on your computer the taskbar.
- Switch off/n your Wi-Fi adapter by press Wi-Fi hardware button. Or you can choose to disable the Wi-Fi through radio temporarily. Airplane Mode is the simplest way that offers by many devices, though using it disconnect Bluetooth connections on your device as well.
- Sometimes you can get perfect signals of your wifi connection in one place and then another place connection is lost. Because the radio signals pass thru many things like people, electricity, surfaces, walls etc. Move from one place to another and see if the Wi-Fi SSID shows up.
- The Wi-Fi Router is down. Check from multiple devices or check with other member using the Wi-Fi Router. You need to reboot or reset your Wi-Fi router.
- Operating systems provide an indication that there is a problem in internet connection, like the Wi-Fi signal icon in taskbar showing a yellow exclamation point in it.
Not Assigning DHCP provided IP Address
- IP address on your device for IPv4 as discussed above starts with 169.254 which indicates your device couldn’t receive an IP address from your Wi-Fi router DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server. Before assuming anything check your firewall settings if you have installed or are using tools built into the Operating System.
Correct router admin login password, no internet connection
- you provided correct password but you put space at the end or somewhere else, spaces count as a word in the password. Recheck your password with writing on the notepad and paste it into password prompt of your wifi router. or you can find Default Router Password List above.
- You need to make sure that you are connected to the correct wifi SSID.
- Best of all reboot the router!
